Why fasting is required
Some blood tests require fasting to get accurate results. This is especially true for cholesterol and blood sugar tests.
Fasting rules
Typically, you need to fast for 8-12 hours before the test. This usually means no food or drink after midnight.
Preparing for imaging tests
For CT or MRI scans, you may need to remove all metal objects including jewelry, belts, and even some clothing with metal.
Ask questions
If you're unsure about preparation instructions, ask: 준비할 것이 있나요? (Is there anything I need to prepare?)
Tip
금식 (geum-shik) means fasting. If the doctor says 금식, don't eat or drink anything (including water, unless told otherwise) from midnight.
